
Business & Computer Science Courses
Students will learn to write, develop, and process programs using the Python programming language, which is used for many applications such as Raspberry Pi programming and data processing. Topics for the course include basic programming skills, conditionals, loops, functions, and drawing output to the screen. This is a new title – was previously Computer Programming I.

This course, designed for self-driven and motivated students, is a hands-on study of how to troubleshoot and diagnose technology in an educational context. The focus of this course will be to help students learn and understand a logical, systematic approach to identify and solve the source, or cause, of a technical problem and how to apply a solution.
Engineering Materials and Production will focus students on the iterative process of engineering. Students will be tasked with designing products to solve specific needs while evaluating the ideal materials needed to make the project successful. Students will become well versed in the advantages and disadvantages of using specific materials for a variety of applications. Students will learn how to design products using a variety of 2-D and 3-D modeling methods and through successive product versions develop functional products that achieve set goals.

An introductory college-level computing course that introduces students to the breadth of the field of computer science. Students learn to design and evaluate solutions and to apply computer science to solve problems through the development of algorithms and programs. They incorporate abstraction into programs and use data to discover new knowledge. Students also explain how computing innovations and computing systems—including the internet—work, explore their potential impacts, and contribute to a computing culture that is collaborative and ethical.
Prerequisites: Completion of Computer Science Discoveries or App & Game Design at 88% or higher. Cumulative GPA 87%.

In this project-based course, students identify what problems create the greatest opportunities for the community and marketplace. Students will also gain an understanding of basic business principles and concepts. Students will assess what data they have, what assumptions need testing, and how and where to access new information that may lead to the resolution of the problem while incorporating the CSJ Calls to Action(when possible). Completed pitches will be shared to a panel of local entrepreneurs during Pitch Day.
A variety of teaching methods will be used in this class, including small group work, student presentations, guest speakers, individual assignments and others to help students develop an entrepreneurial mindset.

Personal Finance (in-class) is designed to help students prepare for their economic future. Concepts include goal setting, banking, investing, insurance, taxes, credit and budgeting. The semester will conclude with an extensive look into the real-world purchases an adult makes and the creation of a budget to prepare for life after college.

Online Personal Finance will allow students to complete the personal finance curriculum outside of a traditional classroom setting. Students will be required to turn in assignments by deadlines and to meet with the teacher periodically to check-in and take tests. The course is designed to help students prepare for their economic future. Concepts include goal setting, banking, investing, insurance, taxes, credit and budgeting.

Eighth-course option
Students will explore marketing skills through the digital medium, including social media and video advertising. By partnering with an organization, club, or business, students will undertake the creation of an integrated marketing campaign to identify potential customers, marketing strategies and promotional ideas. Students may join the Marketing/Entrepreneurship club DECA as a member of this class to gain networking skills and authentic experiences through competitions and conferences.

This course teaches students the basic accounting practices and procedures for operating a business. Concepts taught will include journalizing and posting transactions, preparation of financial statements, petty cash and payroll. In addition, students will learn about ethics and social responsibility.
