To do so, students read a variety of world literature texts and practice refined compositional skills and styles. Honors World Literature moves at a faster pace than on-level World Literature, therefore introducing students to more breadth and depth of skills, styles, and knowledge.

Students study a variety of American fiction, nonfiction, poetry and drama in order to draw a vivid portrait of the unique and varied culture that is America. This course is a survey of American Literature from the Colonial Period to contemporary literature. Coursework includes a variety of persuasive and critical analysis writing assignments. In this course, students will read a variety of contemporary fiction and non-fiction from different perspectives and diverse voices. Additionally, students will be expected to write in different styles in response to the literature to make sure students are college ready. Students will have the opportunity to workshop on college admissions essays in class, and the second semester shifts focus to an in-depth, college research level paper and presentation.

This course is designed to assist students in achieving proficiency in college-level composition, including reading and discussing literature, regular practice in the process of composing and editing, and developing research and presentation skills. The process of analyzing literature together in class will be largely student-driven in order to ensure that students are independently engaged in analyses, while also building on the collective knowledge of the classroom community.
– Students must have been enrolled in semester I with Rockhurst University to be eligible for enrollment in semester II.

The AP English Language and Composition course aligns to an introductory college-level rhetoric and writing curriculum, which requires students to develop evidence-based analytic and argumentative essays that proceed through several stages or drafts. Students evaluate, synthesize, and cite research to support their arguments. Throughout the course, students develop a personal style by making appropriate grammatical choices. Additionally, students read and analyze the rhetorical elements and their effects in non-fiction texts, including graphic images as forms of text, from many disciplines and historical periods.
